- Baking powder: Since the recipe doesn’t use eggs, baking powder is the sole ingredient giving rise to the cake. Without it, the vanilla mug cake would be a rubbery thing. So, make sure your baking powder is still fresh!
- Oil: I have used refined vegetable oil for the recipe, as it has no significant smell or flavor. It’s also helping in achieving a soft texture in the recipe. I wouldn’t recommend replacing oil with butter, as it will hamper the texture.
- Salt: Since I have used oil in the recipe, salt is a must, or the cake would just be bland.

- Mix all the ingredients: Add all the ingredients, i.e., all-purpose flour, castor sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, oil, and vanilla essence, to a mug and mix everything well to make a smooth batter.
- Bake: Put it for baking in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes, then let it cool down to room temperature.
- Garnish & Serve: Once the cake has cooled, garnish it with your favorite toppings and fruits. I have used vanilla ice cream and fresh fruits like mango, blueberries, and kiwi for a refreshing treat.

The cake will rise while baking, so make sure you are using a big mug so it doesn’t overflow. It should be microwave safe, and make sure it has no metallic parts.

Don’t over-microwave! An over-microwaved mug cake would be more like a rubber. So, make sure to bake for a few seconds after the mentioned time, if required.
