Onion rings are a popular side dish that can be eaten with various dishes. They are crispy, flavorful, and perfect for dipping in any sauce. And the best way to do that will be using an air fryer rather than frying them in oil. Air frying onion rings will be much healthier than frying them in oil.
The one thing I love about air fryers is that it’s super easy and fast to cook in an air fryer. Be it frozen food or fresh food. And these onion rings are no different. You can cook them up in far less time than frying or baking them in an oven.
The first time I cooked frozen onion rings in the air fryer was for 15 minutes, the curious cat inside me made me look at them within 5 minutes, and to my surprise, it was already done. Did I mention that we do not need oil to cook them in an air fryer?
Why You Will Love This Recipe?
- Healthy: Using an air fryer is entirely healthy; we don’t even need oil to make them crispy. Place them in the air fryer basket and watch the magic happen.
- Mess-Free: one of the best reasons would be cleaning the air fryer. Even more manageable if you use air fryer liners.
- Easy and Fast: And most importantly, it’s much faster than baking and frying. I get amazed every time at how fast they cook food every time.
How An Air Fryer Works?
An air fryer is basically a mini convection oven that sits on your countertop. An air fryer cooks with oil rather than oil.
An Air fryer has a heating element on top that circulates hot air through a fan around your food. This makes your food crispy from the outside, keeping the juiciness and moistness on the inside.
Important Ingredients Used In The Recipe
- Frozen Onion Rings: any brand of frozen onion rings is fine. And most importantly, you don’t have to thaw them before cooking.
- Oil: this is totally optional. I prefer not to use it. But if you want, you can go ahead and brush a little bit of oil on the onion rings.
How To Make Frozen Onion Rings In Air Fryer?
See the recipe card for complete instructions
Preparation: Place liners in the air fryer basket. You can skip this part if you do not have liners. Preheat the air fryer to 200C (400F). I have worked with the oven so much that I started preheating my air fryer as well. I find it that it cooks faster this way. You can cook without preheating the air fryer.
Place the Onion Ring In The Basket: Place frozen onion rings in one layer. Refrain from overcrowding so the onion rings will cook evenly. You can brush some oil on the rings if you want.
Cook: Cook for 7-8 minutes or until it’s perfectly crispy. Flip the onion rings halfway through the cooking. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of your onion rings and the strength of your air fryer. So keep an eye on them. After 7-8 minutes, check the onion rings if they are cooked to your liking or not. If not, then cook again for 2-3 minutes.
Serve: Carefully remove the onion rings with the help of tongs. Repeat with the remaining frozen onion rings. Serve hot and enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce.
Chef’s Tip For The Recipe
Cook in Batches
Do not overcrowd the air fryer. It is best to cook the frozen onion one layer to ensure even cooking. Shake the basket halfway through to make sure that both the sides are cooked. If you want your frozen onions to be crispier, then you can cook them for 2-3 minutes more.
Tip For Oil
As every air fryer comes with a nonstick coating, it is not necessary to use oil for cooking food, but if you feel dicey, you can just brush some oil on them.
