Easy Frosting Recipe

Have you ever heard of a 5-minute frosting?? Even if you haven’t, you can make it now with a super simple recipe.

I call it Easy Frosting, which requires only two ingredients and a few minutes to complete.

I have been in situations where either my frosting got over in the middle of completing a dessert, or I was just out of time for making one.

At that moment, I thought of whipping up some unsalted butter and powdered sugar to get me going.

It literally took me a few minutes to do so. I can safely say that this frosting is spacious when it comes to making quick frosting.

The texture is fluffy and buttery, and you can add whatever flavor you like or maybe even use it just like that. It’s all up to you.

It’s so simple to make that you don’t even have to mug up any recipe.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe?

  • Super Quick: I’m all in for making fabulous frostings every time you bake any dessert. Hell, that’s why I have been adding so many frosting recipes to the list. But I know as bakers, we face numerous situations where we don’t get enough time to make a new batch of frosting. This frosting would take 5 minutes of your time, and you are good to go.
  • Customizable: Since it’s just bitter and sugar, you can add whatever flavor and color you like to it if you want. It can be used for any dessert you want.
  • Consistency: The texture of the frosting is supposed to be fluffy as we are adding enough sugar for air incorporation. It’s perfect for spreading as well as piping. You can even use this as a practice buttercream if you have some leftovers and no other dessert to frost.

Important Ingredients Used In The Recipe

We have only two ingredients in the recipe:

  • Unsalted Butter: Softened room-temperature unsalted butter is required for the recipe. If you use hard or cold butter, it won’t whip well. And if you use warm or melted butter, it would be flowy/liquidy.
  • Icing Sugar: sieve the sugar before adding it to the butter. It must be free from all lumps. Do not grind sugar at home to make powdered sugar. Always use store-bought packets of icing sugar.

How To Make Easy Frosting

Preparation: Collect and measure the two ingredients needed to make the frosting. Also, grab your tools.

Beat Butter: Take the softened unsalted butter in a mixing bowl and start beating it using an electric hand beater. Keep the speed at medium to high. Beat the butter for about 2 minutes or until it fluffs up and becomes light.

Add Icing Sugar: Sieve the icing sugar and add it to the frosting in batches. Continue beating after each addition so that the sugar gets mixed properly.

Chef’s Tips For The Recipe

Add Sugar In Batches

To avoid flyaways, add the sifted sugar in batches. If you add all the sugar at once, the sugar will fly and spread everywhere when tried to mix.

Do No Overbeat

Once all sugar has been added and mixed, you do not need to beat it any further. Too much whipping will cause extra air to be incorporated, which will lead to air bubbles/pockets in the frosting.

How To Store Easy Frosting

Once the fresh batch has been used for icing and there is some leftover, you can store that in an airtight box in the refrigerator for up to a week.

You can increase the shelf life by storing it in the freezer. It can be used for up to a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted butter?

No, the salted butter will make the frosting too salty. To balance that out, you may have to increase icing sugar, leading to a sweeter taste.

Can I add any flavor to the frosting?

Yes, you can add any essence, puree, or sprinkles to the frosting. Use icing gel colors to add color to it.
