How much does a pastry chef actually earn in India in 2026?
I have been in IT for nine years and I am seriously considering a switch to pastry. Everyone I ask gives me a completely different number, and honestly some of them feel like they are either selling me a course or trying to talk me out of it.
What I want to understand is the structure, not one lucky person's number. Where does someone actually start after training? How long before that changes? Does a five-star hotel pay meaningfully more than a good standalone patisserie, or is it mostly about what you learn there?
I am not expecting my current salary on day one. I have savings and I have made peace with taking a step back for a couple of years. But I do need to know whether the step back is two years or seven, because that changes whether I can do this at all.
If you have made this switch, or you hire in this industry, I would genuinely value a straight answer.
